“Scattershooting while wondering whatever happened to …”

When I lived in Dallas during the 1980s-’90s, there was a crusty sportswriter named Blackie Sherrod who would begin a weekly column with the above intro. This was a reference to some figure from politics or sports or movies or whatever, who had seemed to go missing from the public eye.

I wondered whatever happened to Blackie Sherrod, so I searched and learned that he died ten years ago. Hopefully, he wouldn’t mind my appropriating his signature line — if only for this week.

Joseph McCarthy’s Red Scare

I watched the video pictured above and was reminded how time does funny things to public reputations. Reputations like that of Richard Nixon, who by comparison to today’s politicians seems positively tame. Or people like Joseph McCarthy, who for decades was Hollywood’s public enemy number one, but whose anti-communist views don’t seem so outrageous today.

Hollywood didn’t like McCarthy for blacklisting creatives with alleged “red” connections. Guess who does the blacklisting (of conservatives) today? Yup. Hollywood.

Katherine Heigl

Or more specifically, Katherine Heigl’s ass

I haven’t seen Heigl in anything in years. Maybe I wasn’t searching enough. So I googled her.

I didn’t think she’d done any nude scenes. I was wrong. Her butt has appeared in numerous movies, including the one shown above, and in the scenes below (click images for a larger view):
